Barrett-Jackson will auction beautifully restored Monte Carlo SS to benefit TGen cancer research
First ‘Project Prestone’ resto-mod will cross the auction block Jan. 18 at WestWorld of Scottsdale
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Jan. 10, 2018 — You know it mostly for its antifreeze/coolant, but at this year’s 2018 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Prestone has joined the resto-mod craze with a beautifully restored 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe that will be sold to benefit cancer research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).
Black with yellow details (the colors of Prestone), this restored and modified two-door Monte Carlo has all new and upgraded interior, paint, suspension, brakes, exhaust, transmission, sound system and graphics package.
It will be sold to the highest bidder during Barrett-Jackson’s 47th annual Scottsdale auction, Jan. 13-21, at WestWorld of Scottsdale, 16601 N. Pima Road. One hundred percent of the hammered auction price will go to the Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund at TGen, established in 2010 by auction Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson in memory of his father, Russ, and brother, Brian, whose lives were cut short by cancer.
“I’ve been involved in countless restorations, starting at a young age, and I can appreciate the tremendous amount of work that goes into this incredibly rewarding experience,” Craig Jackson said. “We are proud to once again donate a special collector car for charity and have the entire hammered price going to support the incredible work being done at TGen.”
The “Project Prestone” car was unveiled this summer at a Barrett-Jackson event in Connecticut. Since then it has undergone a complete transformation and is being featured at the Barrett-Jackson Collection Showroom in Scottsdale until it crosses the auction block at WestWorld at about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 18.
“Barrett-Jackson was the first collector car auction to embrace the Resto-Mod movement, making ‘Project Prestone’ a perfect fit for us,” said Steve Davis, President of Barrett-Jackson. “We continue to set the trends in the collector car world, and the interest and growth of the Resto-Mod segment is a great example of how what happens at Barrett-Jackson can impact multiple generations of collectors.”
Contributing partners helping with #ProjectPrestone include: Sherwin Williams; Reliable Carriers, Inc.; Eastwood; Chevrolet Performance; Adam’s Polishes; Magnaflow; Pennzoil; BFGoodrich; Dixie Restoration Depot; Rolling Motorsports; Forgeline; Savior; Edelbrock; Summit Racking Equipment; Stanley Black & Decker; Optima Batteries; Detroit Speed, Inc.; Clarion; DeWalt; Lingenfelter Performance Engineering; Mac Tools; Wildwood; Direct Lift; and Safety Kleen.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Barrett-Jackson on this build,” said Randy Fisher, Vice President of Marketing at Prestone. “Given the caliber of both the Barrett-Jackson auctions and their in-house restoration team, this build embodies Prestone’s rich history and passion for cars, as well as our continued commitment to innovation and performance, which we’ve focused on for the last 90 years.”
Over the last eight years, Barrett-Jackson has donated numerous cars for auction to benefit TGen, and has raised nearly $2 million for TGen’s cancer research. Total giving for all charitable causes by Barrett-Jackson over the years tops $95 million.
“This year, Craig Jackson has rallied many of the leaders in the automotive industry to bring hope and answers to cancer patients and their families,” said Michael Bassoff, President of the TGen Foundation. “We are extremely grateful to the Barrett-Jackson organization, and this year to Prestone and all of their partners, who are helping TGen researchers make remarkable strides towards better cancer treatments, and eventually cures.’’
