Barrett-Jackson auctions two mercurial coupes for TGen's groundbreaking cancer research
Sales of customized Mustang and special Cutlass will fund colon and prostate cancer research as part of auction founder's legacy
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Jan. 14, 2014 - Two fabulous cars - a tricked-out Ford Mustang, and a classic Oldsmobile Cutlass - will be sold this week by the world famous Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, raising funds for colon and prostate cancer research at the non-profit Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).
Both cars will be auctioned in prime time - the Mustang at 8 p.m. today (Jan. 14), and the Cutlass at 6 p.m. Friday (Jan. 17) - during the 43rd annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Scottsdale. The auction is being conducted for the first time Jan. 12-19 in the new 130,000-square-foot North Hall at WestWorld, northeast of Loop 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard.
Proceeds go to the Barrett-Jackson Cancer Research Fund at TGen. The fund, established in 2010, is a salute to auction Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson's father, Russ, and brother, Brian, whose lives were cut short by colon cancer.
"With our all new auction venue, we have an exciting opportunity to showcase our charity, especially the two cars whose sales will benefit the Russ and Brian Jackson Cancer Research Fund at TGen, providing groundbreaking discoveries, hope and better treatments for thousands of colon an other cancer patients bravely fighting these horrible types of cancer," Craig Jackson said. "I am so very grateful to the TGen researchers, working on the cutting edge of science in memory of my dad and brother."
The Mustang, Lot 3001, is being auctioned just in time for this year's 50th anniversary of Ford's classic sports car. This gray-trimmed, red 650-hp 2013 Mothers Ford Mustang RTR Spec 3 is a collaboration of Mustang RTR and Mothers Polishes-Waxes-Cleaners. It features the latest aftermarket technology in chassis and engine development, composites, aerodynamics, paint and audio, coupled with track-proven performance. With a 6-speed manual transmission and charcoal interior, this custom project's partners include: HRE, BASF, Magnaflow, American Racing, Stitchcraft, JRi, Reaus Systems, Whiteline, Deshler's, and Kelly & Son the Crazy Painters.
The Cutlass, Lot 3005, is a legendary black and gold 350-hp 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst Coupe, which were first created in 1968 by Jack "Doc" Watson and the Hurst Shifter Corporation. It was previously owned by Linda Vaughn, known as Miss Hurst Golden Shifter since 1966 and considered the first lady of motor sports from her roots in drag racing, as well as Indy Car racing and NASCAR. This 1979 Hurst Olds is one of the last Hurst Vehicles presented to Vaughn for her dedication to the Hurst Shifter name. This vehicle was purchased by Craig Jackson and donated to the TGen Foundation, the non-profit fundraising arm of TGen.
The Cutlass will be on view during the Barrett-Jackson event at the TGen booth near auction's main entrance.
In addition, TGen is raffling a prize during the auction that includes: two VIP passes to the 2014 Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas, two airfare vouchers, and a five-night stay at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Raffle tickets are $20 each, or six tickets for $100. Also, raffle tickets are available online at www.bjcancerfund.org through Jan. 17. The winner will be announced on the last day of the auction, Jan. 19. All proceeds support cancer research at TGen.
Although the raffle is being held at the auction, this promotion is being conducted by the TGen Foundation. Neither Barrett-Jackson Auction Co. LLC nor any of its affiliates have responsibility for conducting this promotion.

More than 102,000 Americans, men and women, were diagnosed last year with colon cancer, which in 2013 killed more than 50,000 patients, the third-leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.
An additional 238,000 American men were diagnosed last year with prostate cancer, which in 2013 killed nearly 30,000 patients, the second-leading cause of cancer death among men in the U.S.
Since its inception, Barrett-Jackson has raised more than $60 million for charitable causes.
