Get pumped: TGen's 3rd annual Cycle for the Cure now 'bigger than ever'
Be one of the 200 indoor cyclists riding May 19 to support TGen's cancer research
SCOTTSDALE AND PHOENIX, Ariz. - April 26, 2013
- With a fourth venue and a broader mission,
organizers are planning the 3rd annual Cycle for the Cure,
supporting cancer research at the Translational Genomics Research
Institute (TGen).
More than 200 men and women are expected to participate May 19 in
this year's indoor cycling fundraiser, which aims to raise $150,000
for TGen, according to event Co-Chairs Vicki Vaughn and Denise
Shorall.
Cyclists of all skill levels, from beginners to experts, are
invited to participate. In support of TGen's Cycle for the Cure,
Village Clubs are inviting non-members to ride. Bikes can be
reserved with a $200 tax-deductible donation at www.tgenfoundation.org/cycle.
This year, riders don't even need to be present to participate.
"Virtual riders" can ride wherever they are.
"The scope of this event is bigger than ever," Vaughn said. "We've
grown this event beyond the critically important work TGen does for
breast and ovarian cancer, and now will use this year's proceeds to
help support all types of cancer research at TGen."
New this year, in addition to Studio 360 and other Village
locations, is a fourth location for Cycle for the Cure: the DC
Ranch Village Health Club & Spa, 18501 N. Thompson Peak Parkway
in Scottsdale. The addition of DC Ranch makes this event a
Village-wide partnership.
Again this year, the Camelback Village Racquet & Health Club,
4444 E. Camelback Road in Phoenix, will host a Post-Ride Party with
a live band, food and drinks, starting at 5 p.m. The party is free
for riders, or a $20 donation for guests.
"A two-hour ride isn't a challenge when we do it together. With
music and rotating motivational instructors, it's so much fun. And,
riding teams can split the two hours," Shorall said. "While we get
our hearts pumping, there is time to reflect on what an important
effort we are all contributing to and how together we can really
make a difference."
TGen scientists, including TGen President Dr. Jeffrey Trent, will
be on hand to ride and explain their important work. TGen, a
non-profit research institute located at the heart of the downtown
Phoenix Biomedical Campus, is dedicated to conducting
groundbreaking research with life-changing results.
In medicine, one size does not fit all. TGen's focus on developing
and delivering precision medicine - the right treatment for each
individual patient - will enable physicians to deliver care more
effectively and efficiently. Matching the right therapy appropriate
to each patient's genomic profile produces greater patient
benefit.
"TGen was created by a community of scientists and volunteers to
bring hope to patients and families who need new answers today,"
said TGen Foundation President Michael Bassoff. "The Cycle for the
Cure committee delivers hope and critically needed funding for
TGen's science."
