Saks Fifth Avenue invites shoppers to help support TGen cancer research
Key to the Cure' charity-shopping weekend focused on women

Entertainment Industry Foundation's Women's Cancer Research Fund
ambassador, by attending Saks Fifth Avenue's 2012 Key to the
Cure.
Oct. 18-21, during Key to the Cure's Friends & Family Shopping
Weekend, the Saks Fifth Avenue store at Biltmore Fashion Park, 24th
Street and Camelback Road, will donate 2 percent of sales to
support breast and ovarian cancer research at the Translational
Genomics Research Institute (TGen).
The big event that weekend is the Key to the Cure kick-off
celebration, from 8:30-11 a.m. Oct. 19, featuring a fashion show,
raffle, food, drinks, and live entertainment. Tickets for the
kick-off celebration are $125, and available through TGen at
www.helptgen.org or at 602-343-8572.
Fashion show guests will get to meet designer David Meister, whose
designs are synonymous with sophisticated women's wear. His
red-carpet devotees include Hollywood actresses Diane Lane,
Katherine Heigl, Queen Latifah, Tina Fey, and Drew Barrymore.
Starting today, Oct. 1, Saks stores, Saks' OFF 5TH stores, and
saks.com will offer a limited edition Key To The Cure T-shirt
designed by Carolina Herrera. The $35 purchase price of each shirt
sold will be donated to local charity partners, including
TGen.
National Awareness, Local Impact
In support of Key to the Cure, Ms. Cruz will appear in a national
public service announcement (PSA) wearing the Key to the Cure
T-shirt. She was the first Spanish actress to win an Academy Award
- an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2008 for her role in
Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Her Key To The Cure PSA will appear in
September and October editions of major fashion and lifestyle
magazines.
Saks Fifth Avenue initiated its charity-shopping weekend in 1999.
Since then, the company has donated $34 million to women's cancer
research and treatment organizations throughout the U.S.,
including: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation; EIF's Women's
Cancer Research Fund; Cleveland Clinic; Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer
Institute; and the Nevada Cancer Institute.
Breast cancer remains the most common type of cancer among women
in the U.S., with an incidence rate nearly twice that of lung
cancer. Though treatments have improved, nearly 40,000 American
women will die this year from breast cancer.
TGen is dedicated to finding new and better cancer treatments,
focusing on personalized medicine that targets each cancer's
genetic vulnerabilities while minimizing harmful side
effects.
TGen's Breast and Ovarian Cancer Research Unit seeks to unravel
the complex nature of cancer, aiming for new methods of prevention,
early diagnosis, and groundbreaking therapeutics. Data generated
through TGen's leading-edge genomic research can help oncologists
pinpoint the potential causes of individual tumors, and shed light
on the best treatments for each patient.
