Mountains of Hope Foundation enlists Scottsdale chef Eddie Matney for TGen breast cancer research fundraising dinner
'Cookin' for a Cure at Eddie's House'
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Feb. 8, 2011 - The Marilyn B. Gula Mountains of
Hope Foundation is cooking up something special at an elite
Scottsdale restaurant to benefit TGen's advanced breast cancer
research.
Cookin' for a Cure at Eddie's House is a casual private dining
experience set for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Chef Eddie
Matney's restaurant, 7042 E. Indian School Road.
In addition to delicious food and a silent auction, celebrity
guests will attend, including baseball legends Joe Garagiola Sr.
and Luis Gonzalez, and Arizona Cardinals tight end Ben Patrick.
Channel 3 news anchor Tara Hitchcock will emcee the event.
Tickets to 'Cookin' for a Cure at Eddie's House' are $150 per
person. Space is limited to 200 guests. Chef Eddie's menu includes
passed hors d'oeuvres, a buffet dinner, special desserts and
coffee, plus an open bar, Su Vino Wines and Belvedere Pink
Martinis. Tickets may be purchased at:
www.mountainsofhopefoundation.org.
All proceeds from the dinner will benefit advanced breast cancer
research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute
(TGen).
Every 12 minutes, breast cancer claims another life, making it the
second leading cause of cancer death among American women. One in
every seven women in the United States will eventually develop
breast cancer.
In recent years, researchers have confirmed that breast cancer is
not one disease, but includes several distinct disease sub-types.
Increasing numbers of diagnostic tests are being developed to
recognize these sub-types, and clinicians are embracing this
information to tailor their treatment decisions for individual
patients.
Dr. Heather Cunliffe, who leads TGen's Breast and Ovarian Cancer
Research Unit, is trying to identify why cancer cells grow out of
control. To do this, she uses TGen's advanced technologies to
rapidly measure the behavior of tumors at very high
resolution.
The March 10 event includes a unique silent auction and raffle
prizes: an electric-powered drivable toy BMW, a private cooking
class and dinner with Chef Eddie Matney at the winner's home; an
exclusive wine bottling experience including tasting, bottling and
labeling 30 bottles of the winner's choice of Su Vino wines; and a
top-of-the-line McIntosh integrated audio system from LMC Home
Entertainment.
Corporate sponsorships are available. For complete sponsorship
benefits, please contact Allen J. Gula Jr. at 650-799-5485 or visit

ABOUT THE MARILYN B. GULA MOUNTAINS OF HOPE FOUNDATION
The Marilyn B. Gula Mountains of Hope Foundation is a 501c(3)
non-profit organization, established in 2003 by Marilyn Barry Gula,
a native of Northeast Ohio, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in
1996. Although controlled by powerful drugs, the cancer continued
to recur until the drugs were ineffective and she lost her battle
with this insidious disease on July 26, 2006. As a result, the
Mountains of Hope Foundation was renamed "The Marilyn B. Gula
Mountains of Hope Foundation" to honor her memory and continue the
work she began. Based in Phoenix, every dollar donated is applied
directly to funding highly regarded researchers across the nation
who study advanced stages of breast cancer, with the hope of making
inroads to improve the detection, treatment and management of this
deadly disease.
