'I'm Going to Saks … For My Favorite Charity' nets 5 percent of
sales for TGen
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Aug. 1, 2011 - A month-long summer-styling
promotion kicks off today that will benefit breast and ovarian
cancer research at the Translational Genomics Research Institute
(TGen).
I'm Going to Saks … For My Favorite Charity runs throughout
August. Customers at Saks Fifth Avenue's store at Biltmore
Fashion Park, 2446 E. Camelback Road, will have an amount equal to
5 percent of their purchase price donated to TGen research if they
use their Saks credit cards.
"This is great opportunity to shop at Saks Fifth Avenue, one of the
world's pre-eminent specialty retailers, while at the same time
helping TGen scientists bring hope to tens of thousands of women
worldwide who will be diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancer,"
said TGen Foundation President Michael Bassoff.
Breast cancer is the number one type of cancer among women in the
U.S., with more than 192,000 new cases each year. Although there
have been advances in treating breast cancer, more than 40,000
American women annually die from this disease, the second leading
cause of cancer death among women in the U.S.
Ovarian cancer is less common, but more deadly, striking more than
21,000 women in the U.S. each year, and annually killing more than
14,000.
Customers may register their Saks credit cards with any Saks sales
associate, and designate TGen as the beneficiary. Saks Fifth Avenue
credit cards may be obtained at the store, and customers receive 10
percent off their purchases that day.
This promotion is available only for in-store purchases (not
online) and only at the Biltmore Fashion Park location.
At the end of the month, Saks could donate up to $10,000 to TGen,
which will go toward the development of early diagnostics for
breast and ovarian cancer, and more effective treatments for these
diseases.
