Jennifer Hong: 2018 TGen Bioscience Leadership Academy

Jennifer, a rising senior at Xavier College Prep in Phoenix, says, "It was an enriching and life-changing experience to learn from the many people, who made (this) possible."

My name is Jennifer Hong and I would like to say that it has been absolutely an honor and privilege to be a part of the 2018 TGen Bioscience Leadership Academy (BLA).
Over the course of the seemingly short, yet incredible and fulfilling two weeks, I gained a better understanding of what it meant to be a Bioscience Leader because of the people at TGen. I am truly amazed and grateful to meet new friends, scientists and mentors, who helped me build upon my interest in the biomedical field and fulfill my personal goal of stepping outside my comfort zone. Everyday at BLA, I was surrounded by kind, open-minded Bioscience Leaders, who valued respect, teamwork, and took initiative of their goals. I am thankful to grow from my experiences at TGen from learning professional development, expanding my knowledge on clinical trials and healthcare research, and to studying my first scientific article under the mentorship of Dr. Johanna DiStefano. I am sincerely thankful for all the incredible guest speakers, who shared their valuable stories and expertise ranging from bioinformatics, public speaking, proteomics, and to their experiences in the laboratory.
It was an enriching and life-changing experience to learn from the many people, who made BLA possible. Truly, BLA laid the foundation for scholars like me to pursue our dreams in the future.
